Food was amazing
The food in this place is amazing. Stayed for 2 nights and I had the beef and mushroom stroganoff on the Friday and the creamy garlic and ham tagliatelle, I asked if I could add mushrooms to the tagliatelle and Jake obliged. My husband had the Thatchers battered fish and chips and he loved it. Breakfast was lush as well.

Nice rooms but steep stairs, poor food.
Rooms were nice & the pillows great & we got a good price for two rooms by booking direct.
However, they really should include details about the steep stairs on their website. We only knew about them before booking as someone had mentioned them in their review & I then contacted the hotel before booking as one of our party has some mobility problems. The person who checked us in even said that if she had come on her own she would have refused to give her the room!
As for breakfast we asked for 8am and went over a few minutes before & it was still locked & lights off. When the young man eventually let us in he was the only one working so disappeared into kitchen for ages to make ours and another man’s breakfast. No menu to choose breakfast from, drinks out of a machine behind bar with cartons of milk were vile. Lidl cereal selection was poor & he didn’t get the milk out before leaving us so couldn’t have had any if we wanted it! When breakfast came the scrambled eggs were overcooked & quality of food generally low.

Not the best ….
Visited for a coffee , it was out of a machine but tasted awful . I took it back they bought me another still the same .
I said I would have another drink & still ending up charging me for that . The member of staff said it was the milk , it truly wasn’t even drinkable .
Wasn’t a friendly pub . The staff are always outside smoking & no welcome smile .Wont be returning .

Shocking and appalling
This is the worst hotel experience I’ve had and the worst customer service I have ever received. The manager of this so called ‘friendly place to stay’ was rude, aggressive and utterly abusive when challenged on a lack of breakfast, which I will add, states clearly on the booking page is included, despite filling in a form on Christmas Eve to order breakfast on Boxing Day morning.
There were several of us left waiting outside in the cold with no breakfast in sight, the poor cleaner dealt with us whilst the lazy manager took over 45 minutes to come to speak to us; but when he finally did arrive it wasn’t a case of speaking to us all to apologise it was more of being utterly aggressive and confrontational from the start, refusing to address the situation at hand, blaming everyone else but himself for an obvious lack of service and poor communication with other staff members to make sure they we all present to have in place the preordered breakfast service many of us booked for, were expecting and paid for.
I am utterly appalled at the shocking attitude and childish ranting behaviour of the so called manager of the place, and it was totally unacceptable on any level.
These people should not be allowed to continue to run this establishment otherwise they will drive it into the ground, we will never ever visit this place again to either stay or to buy a drink from here and have told others we know in the area to avoid the place like the plague.
I advise anyone thinking about staying here to avoid at all costs, unless you like poor service and a ranting abusive, childish man who allegedly runs the place.

The Worst Hotel Experience of My Life
I can confidently say that this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a hotel
The booking was made for a twin room to accommodate two men working away from home. Upon arrival, we were shocked to find that the hotel had given us a double bed instead. Despite evidence that a twin room had been booked, the hotel insisted that a double had been reserved. Their complete refusal to accept any responsibility, but blame booing.com for this mistake was only the beginning of the nightmare.
When we tried to resolve the issue, we were met with the most rude, obnoxious, and downright disgusting customer service I have ever encountered. Rather than attempting to help, they immediately shifted the blame onto Booking.com, washing their hands of the situation entirely. They showed no empathy, no accountability, no understanding, and no willingness to address our concerns. We were left high and dry, without any support or reassurance, and told point-blank, “It’s not our problem.”
How a business can operate this way is beyond comprehension. How they can avoid taking any responsibility or show zero empathy to paying customers is equally baffling. From a business perspective, this is an atrocious way to operate.
The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was staggering. I would implore anyone considering staying at this hotel to think twice—no, to avoid it entirely. These people should not be in charge of running a business, let alone one in the hospitality industry.
To add insult to injury, we decided—reluctantly—to check the room and see if we could make do by top-and-tailing in the double bed. However, the room was absolutely appalling: dirty, poorly maintained, and not fit for purpose. Faced with such dire conditions, we had no choice but to pack up and drive three hours back home, a journey we should never have been forced to make.
To say this left a sour taste would be the understatement of the century. I have never, and hope to never again, experience such a disgraceful level of service.
For a hotel to run on a foundation of disdain, indifference, and outright hostility toward its customers is shocking. Empathy and responsibility should be the cornerstones of any hospitality business, yet they were utterly absent here. Oh and try and stand your corner and you will be met with complete ignorance and narcism!
